To get an Indiana learner’s permit you pass a vision screening and a multiple-choice knowledge exam based on Indiana law, defensive driving practices and the Driver’s Manual. The exam has two parts, traffic signs and traffic rules and laws, and you must score 80% or higher on each part. If you fail the knowledge exam, you must wait until the next business day to retake it. Before you get a driver’s license, you also pass a driving skills exam in a vehicle.
